My PYP Exhibition Reflection

First Day of Exhibit

The first day of our PYP exhibition was Thursday May 28, 2009. As expected it was a very tiring day for the Gold Researchers' group. Atta, our classmate opened the exhibition by playing the piano in front of us in the Lotus Lounge. Then came our first visitors in our booth, the K1! We showed them our imovie about our Trip to Antam, calculating the mining output and local mining. We were very serious in explaining all these to the K1 students but it looked like we're wasting our voices because they seemed not to understand anything we have said. Some of the questions were funny here let me share some of them, “What is your name?’’ “What is the color of gold?” and many more! Then SESSION 1 STARTED! K1 left the booth and went inside the presentation room to watch the other groups' presentation together with grades 1-3.

Some groups went inside to present while others were left in their booth waiting for the first session to end. Our group didn’t go in because it wasn’t our turn yet so we were waiting outside. After 30 minutes of waiting SESSION 1 has ENDED! Students from grade 1-3 went to our booth. It was a success and we gave them so much information until they didn’t have any more questions.

SESSION 2 STARTED! It was our turn to have a presentation. I was very nervous but it turned out fine. We didn’t answer one question that was, “What are the chemicals for extracting gold?” We forgot the answer which was cyanide.

My reflection

I think in our first day of exhibit I was a risk taker and communicator because I tried to answer all the hard questions and explained my presentation very well.

SECOND DAY OF EXHIBIT

Preparation for this day's exhibit was harder because tougher questions could be asked by the grade 4, 6 and 7. Before we started our exhibit, we did our general rehearsal in the presentation room in the Lotus Lounge. There were two sessions. In the first session the G.E.M.S, M.A.E and Isfan’s sketch-up presentation were shown. After that, the Gold rushers, World of Copper and our group the Gold Researchers. After our general rehearsal the second day of the exhibit began. Each member of the group was assigned with a certain task. You could stay in front and explain the imovie being shown on the smartboard, or do your presentation on your laptop.

The first group who visited our booth were the Grade 4 students. Arkan and I were explaining the at the board while Sevrin showed his presentation. When Sevrin’s presentation was finished it was my turn to present the imovie I made about gold processing in Gunung Pongkor. The first group of Grade 4 asked really good questions such as "How do people know that there is gold under the ground?”, “How many ores can a granby ore carry?”, and “how much gold is inside an ore?” Then came the second group of grade 4 , we must have explained very well this time because they didn’t ask any questions, hmmm.

Session 1 started, the Grade 4 students and boys from Grade 6 went inside the room to watch the presentation. While waiting outside the girls from Grade 6 visited our booth. Arkan, Sevrin and I took turns in explaining the imovie and the booth display. Luckily the grade 6 didn’t ask any questions.

SESSION 2 BEGAN! My group was very nervous because Mr. John, Ms. Kathryn and Ms. Mida were there. I was so nervous that I had goose bumps plus the air conditioner was really cold. But when our turn came and I started to speak I wasn’t nervous at all! It was a very successful presentation and guess what, they didn’t ask any questions either!

We thought our exhibit was finished, but it wasn’t over yet , Mrs.T made a special SESSION for Ms. Indah and Ms Elizabeth. Mr. John made Zaky’s quiz into a game “Are you smarter than a fifth Grader?” It was very funny as Ms Indah and Ms Elizabeth were a team and Min Soo and Johnny were teammates. Then Ms. Indah made a deal if her team loses she'll give J.CO donuts to all the Grade 5 students. When Min soo and Johnny heard about J.CO donuts, they got serious. Grade 5 won the game and all of us were very happy. YES! Were going to have J.CO donuts on Monday! Our PYP exhibition wasn’t always a serious thing, it was also so much fun!

My reflection

I think I was knowledgeable because I was able to give many information and answered all the hard questions. A risk taker because I spoke spontaneously to the audience.

Last week we studied about the Spore creature creator. This is a cool program for making your own creatures. I have created some creatures namely Bitemore, Watersaur,Treemon and Killmon . They are very powerful monsters . They can bite, scratch, roar and spit. It was so much fun creating Spore creatures! I felt very creative and futuristic when I made my spores. Then we had to describe them using metaphors. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phase is applied to an object or action according to the dictionary. If you're still confused here's an example.

Hi! My name is Carl I am a student from Sinarmas World Academy. I am going to tell you about my talent. God has given me the talent and ability to write short stories. I discovered this talent when I was in Grade 2. I remember in my old school, our teacher told us to make a short story. Since that day I was inspired to write short stories. Actually I had done some short stories. But how could I develop it? Hmmm let me see…. Aha! I will keep writing stories to have a good and perfect story. The character that I like is George. Actually her real name is Georgina but they call her George. I find her character interesting because she is a girl yet she acts like a boy. She is brave and adventurous. She lives in Kirrin cottage. Her cousins' names are Julian, Dick and Anne. When they went to Kirrin Island they saw a ship wreck. When they explored the wreck they saw the box that belonged to George's great great grand father . Inside it, there was a treasure map . The map points where the treasure is hidden in the dungeon. This is where their adventure begins. It's a fun and exciting story!
